Interpreting the Energy Chart

  • Please watch the short video clip below, and make sure you know how to interpret all the numbers on this chart. (The chart is too small to read in the video, but is shown full-size lower on the page.)
  • Then watch the short video on Renewable and NonRenewable Energy, linked below
  • Open CE1 though your Quia account, and use the two videos to answer the questions there!
  • Thanks in advance for your hard work. If you get stuck, get help!

Introduction:

We use chemical energy for many purposes, from gas and oil furnaces in our homes, to gasoline engines in our cars, to coal-burning power plants, and much more. Most of our technology relies on natural resources of chemical energy, known as fossil fuels. In this activity, you will investigate the US statistics of how we use fossil fuels.

Activity:

  • Watch the following video (use your earphones if you have them, or watch with a neighbor to minimize noise!)
  • CE1Movie.png
  • Open the activity CE1: Using Chemical Energy from your Quia account. Complete the assignment, using the information in the video and the included charts.
  • CE1_Clip.png

Conclusion:

Burning fuels forms an important part of our economy. Understanding how we use it can help us conserve our natural resources and possibly find alternatives.
